Hillel Digital Divide
Join Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life and Time Warner Foundation in an exciting grant opportunity available for all campuses. These grants will enable Hillel Foundations, Hillel Program Centers and Hillel Student Organizations to create initiatives that help narrow the Digital Divide in your community.

What is the Digital Divide?
The Digital Divide is the gap between communities/people who do not have the capability or the knowledge to use new technology such as computers and those communities/people who do have access to new technology.

What type of programs can our campus do?
There are a variety of opportunities for campuses to get involved, whether it is with local public schools, nonprofit organizations, community organizations, or job education centers. Contact your state and/or local government for existing Digital Divide programs that you can join.

Criteria
To be eligible for funding, in addition to the general grant criteria, programs must:
  • Address the issue of the Digital Divide
  • Be a new program or a variation of an existing program
  • Help college students understand the Jewish roots of tzedek (justice) work
  • Be co-written by a student
Initiative Ideas:
  • In a local library teach classes to show children how to use a computer
  • Volunteer in a local elementary school and assist teachers in the school with their computer classes and show children how to properly explore the Internet
  • Partnering with your campus computer labs, invite local children who do not have access to computers to come to your campus and teach them to use computers
Funding
Each funded program will receive up to $1,000.

Checks will be issued to Hillels and appropriate organizations only and will not be issued to individuals.

Deadline
Grant applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis through May 15, 2006. Applications must be submitted at least 30 days in advance of the program. Decisions will be made within 30 days of the receipt of the proposal. Programs will not be funded retroactively. Applicants will be notified of decisions by e-mail.

Evaluation
You must submit the program to Hillel's Program Exchange within one month of the completion of the program. If Hillel's International Center does not receive your evaluation within one month of your program, your campus will be ineligible for another grant for the remainder of the academic year.

Publicity
All flyers, newspaper articles, brochures and other publicity must visibly state that the project was funded by a Weinberg Tzedek Hillel-Digital Divide Grant through Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life.

Applying for a grant
Applications for this grant are accepted online. You do not have to fill out the application all at once (you will be able to save in process and return), however we still recommend that you look at a blank application form before filling it out to make sure you have all the necessary information.

Application session is closed.
