When you join Hillel, it’s like reclaiming the best aspects of the college experience: a dynamic learning environment, stimulating interactions with students and faculty, access to university resources, and a community of talented new colleagues.
Off campus, Hillel’s Schusterman International Center provides you with an array of opportunities to have your own meaningful Jewish experiences, connect with other Hillel colleagues across the world, and develop your skills as a Jewish communal leader and educator.
Hillel is continually expanding our professional development opportunities, but here are just a few you can look forward to:
Engagement Institutes: Hillel offers two Engagement Institutes that focus on both the big ideas and practical applications of what it means to make engagement central to everything Hillel does. These trainings are targeted to serve the following professionals:
• Those who staff immersion experiences
• Campus Entrepreneurs Initiative supervisors and Directors
• Senior Jewish Educators (E3)
• Israel Fellows
New Directors Institute: New Hillel directors participate in an intensive orientation at the Schusterman International Center in Washington, DC.
Professional Staff Conference: In December over 500 Hillel professionals gather at our annual Professional Staff Conference to study, teach, network and celebrate our work as a community.
Additionally, Hillel offers a number training opportunities to support the growth of our professionals throughout the year:
Career Development Grants: Grants for up to $500 support professionals who wish to take a class, a workshop, or a field trip to visit and learn from a colleague at another Hillel in order to address an identified development goal.
Jewish Learning Opportunities: It can be hard to facilitate meaningful Jewish experiences for students if you don’t have your own to draw upon. Hillel has partnerships with Pardes Institute and Melitz in Jerusalem as well as Brandeis Collegiate Institute in Los Angeles to offer significant Jewish experiences and study opportunities each summer. New this year, our Everett Ethical Leadership Institute is offering a cadre of Hillel staff an opportunity for in-depth personal exploration of Jewish ethics as well as training on a new related curriculum to bring to campus.
In between conferences, Hillel offers workshops in various US locations throughout the year on diverse topics such as spirituality, Social Justice, Israel, supervision and fundraising.
Finally, professional networks of colleagues with similar roles collaborate through listserves, conferences calls and face-to-face meetings such as the annual Rabbis Kallah.
