About Bates College
The Bates Hillel is run entirely by students and is open to the entire Bates community.
Hillel provides Friday night Shabbat services and dinner, which are held in the Intercultural Center. Every year, we bring in a
Rabbinical student or a Rabbi to lead High Holiday services. We also traditionally lead religious events for Sukkot,
Hanukkah, Tu BiShvat, Purim, Passover, and Yom Hashanah.
Hillel also sponsors speakers about Judaism as a religion and a culture in efforts to inform the campus at large about
important issues. Numerous other events which are more cultural are held each year, such as apple picking, movie
showings, and comedians. Hillel works with chaplain Bill Blaine-Wallace and local Rabbi Hillel Katzir to provide educational
materials available for general campus use.
