At Davidson College, Hillel is growing each year. The Class of 2013 has 30 Jewish students, more than double any other class in Davidson's history. Hillel celebrates the major Jewish holidays with events such as €œSalsa and the Sukkah†and €œPizza in the Hut,€ and has regular monthly events for the 75 Jewish students on campus. In addition there is a monthly Hillel service on campus. Davidson College has shown a commitment to supporting Jewish life by hiring the rabbi at the local Reform congregation as the adjunct Jewish College Chaplain. The town of Davidson now has a small but vibrant Jewish community of nearly 200 families consisting of a Reform Congregation (www.lakenormanjc.org) with a full time Rabbi who lives in town, and a Conservative Congregation (www.bslkn.org). Both groups meet within 5 miles of campus, welcoming the college students to all worship services and community events for free. In addition, both also hold services monthly on the Davidson campus. A handful of students teach in the synagogue religious schools.
