About Emerson College
Emerson College Hillel is housed in the Center for Spiritual Life, located in the Walker Building on campus. Rabbi Albert Axelrad is the Chair of the CSL and teaches a popular Introduction to Judaism class each fall. A staff person from Hillel Council of New England is on campus one day per week, serving as Advisor and promoting Jewish life at Emerson. Emerson Hillel is one of the most active student groups on campus. Hillel holds open weekly meetings and several educational and cultural events per month, in addition to celebrating Jewish holidays together, and participating in Regional Jewish opportunities. Each year, students` interests shape the programming that will be offered. Shabbat is usually celebrated as a group once per semester, depending upon student interest. With Emerson`s proximity to the Consulate General of Israel to New England and commitment to the Arts, there is often an emphasis on Israel-themed programming and interactive events with noted Jewish authors, directors, producers, etc. Emerson Hillel frequently partners with academic departments on campus, Student Life, and other student organizations in the celebration of Jewish life on campus.
