About Loyola Marymount University

The Office of Jewish Student Life is a nexus for Jewish life on LMU’s campus, committed to building and strengthening the Jewish community through religious, cultural, intellectual and social justice programming. Working closely with the student club Hillel, with the Jewish Studies Program, with Campus Ministry and Student Affairs, Jewish Student Services provides opportunities for connection and growth. 

While creating a community in which Jewish students can celebrate their Jewish identity, Jewish Student Life also seeks to build bridges between all faith-based communities at LMU through formal and informal opportunities for interfaith dialogue and cross-cultural exchange. Jewish life at LMU is an integrated part of LMU's diverse tapestry of faiths and cultures. Holidays and rituals are celebrated widely across the campus and by all members of the LMU community.

Birthright Participation Taglit-Birthright Israel offers a free trip to Israel for students who have never been to Israel on a peer-based trip.

Alt Break Participation Alternative Breaks are organized, short-term service projects, often involving travel. Student participants are challenged to understand difficult social issues and to explore questions of Judaism and social responsibility while giving of themselves and their time.

LMU Student Hillel is a space for all students on campus to participate in Jewish learning and activities, which provides opportunities to foster and support the Jewish community. While creating a community in which Jewish students can celebrate their Jewish identity, LMU student Hillel also seeks to build bridges between all faith-based groups at LMU. LMU student Hillel’s reach extends beyond the campus, as it hopes to better the world through social justice work.

Mission:

LMU’s student Hillel is committed to being an active part of LMU’s diverse faith-based community and to increase its presence on campus. It seeks to create an open environment for discussing aspects of the Jewish faith among peers, and to build an environment excited to engage together in learning, social activities, social justice work and prayer. Students who engage with Hillel have an opportunity to explore their identity, and broaden their opinions about themselves, their community and the world.
