Religious Services

Shabbat dinners are truly the center of Hillel's community. Nearly every week throughout the academic year, Cincinnati Hillel offers Kabbalat Shabbat services followed by dinner. The services are always led by Hillel students, who also give a D'var Torah on the week's portion. Services use the Conservative movement's Sim Shalom siddur or the Reform movement's Gates of Prayer siddur, depending on the choice of the student(s) leading the service. Shabbat dinners are usually prepared by Hillel students working with staff. These dinners attract from 30 to 110 students with an average of about 50. There are often special themes, such as Israel Shabbat (with Israeli food), Senior Shabbat (when awards are given to outstanding graduating students), or Career Shabbat (with visiting young adults who are willing to be student mentors). We often have board members attend, as well as guests from the campus and from the Jewish community.

Frequency: Friday night only
