At UIC Hillel we are fortunate to have a very diverse--and Jewish student community where everyone gets along and can learn from one another. It is a very warm and welcoming environment. There are many opportunities for involvement and learning on your own terms, whether you live on campus or commute. While there are UIC Hillel campus traditions that bring everyone together there`s also a lot of activity in smaller groups based on student interests and initiatives. We have Peer Engagement, Facing Change and Israel internships, a Mashgiach (kosher supervision) Training program and an active Student Board. All food is kosher and much of it is cooked by students in our own supervised kosher kitchen. We have many opportunities to participate in social action including Alternate Break trips (Urban Excursion) and Urban Immersion in Chicago. Also opportunities to get to know Jewish students from other Chicago area campuses. Finally the Hillel building is a great place to chill, study, meet friends and even park your car.

Birthright Participation Taglit-Birthright Israel offers a free trip to Israel for students who have never been to Israel on a peer-based trip.

Alt Break Participation Alternative Breaks are organized, short-term service projects, often involving travel. Student participants are challenged to understand difficult social issues and to explore questions of Judaism and social responsibility while giving of themselves and their time.
