The Southern Maine Hillel is a fully sanctioned student organization at the University of Southern Maine (USM). Southern Maine Hillel also serves the Greater Portland community of students, faculty and staff at the surrounding colleges; SMHillel is delighted to be involved with events and college life at The University of New England (UNE), Southern Maine Community College (SMCC), Maine College of Art (MECA) and the SALT Institute for Documentary Studies. Many events are holiday-centered, and others simply celebrate Jewish life and create a fun environment for students of all backgrounds to connect. Examples of past programs include: a Klezmer band benefit dance, students and community members joining together to build a Sukkah on campus, a second Night Passover Seder, and a Challah French Toast Brunch. SMHillel is excited to be involved with interfaith events, and is a welcoming place for people of all identities, life experiences, and backgrounds. Southern Maine Hillel strives to be a welcoming place to all students, staff, and faculty in the Southern Maine area who are looking to connect with folks through a Jewish lens. All events are open to the public, and we are delighted to welcome all.
