My time in New Orleans was a life altering experience.  I was shocked by the devastation that still exists and the amount of work that still needs to be done 5 years after Hurricane Katrina.  While I was shocked by the level of destruction, I was amazed by the spirit and generosity of the people of New Orleans.  They were so grateful for the work that Hillel and other organizations are performing and would come to our work site each day to say thank you.  During my week in New Orleans my peers and I made a fence, put up siding and painted the house.  My first day at the work site I was terrified to go on the scaffolding and by day two I felt like a pro.  Through my experience I learned the capability that everyone has and how much can be accomplished when we work together.
