Never been to PSC or not sure you’ve gotten the most out of prior conferences?
Here are
Ten Tips to help you prepare, pack and participate to the fullest.
- Set some goals for what you hope to get out of the conference.
- Review the schedule ahead of time and determine which events will most help you to meet your goals. (The full schedule will be released one week prior to the conference.)
- Make meetings. Think about whether there is anyone you want to meet with during the conference (a colleague who you admire, someone who is doing a program you want to bring your campus). Connect with them in advance of the conference and let them know you want to meet. Some people arrive at the conference with a schedule of meetings already in place! Meals are a great time to meet with colleagues.
- Are you hiring new staff or thinking about your next professional step? Register to participate in Candidate’s Day.
- Dress for the conference is business casual. Pack something festive to wear for the banquet (think bar mitzvah) and bring a warm coat for the D.C. Monuments Tour.
- Take some time each day to take care of yourself – go to the hotel gym or pool, take a walk to get some fresh air.
- Try something new – attend morning yoga, a prayer service, a workshop on a topic that you normally wouldn’t attend.
- Bring materials to share with colleagues (marketing materials, extra t-shirts and give away items, development brochures). There will be a place to display it all.
- Bring plenty of your business cards.
- Get lots of sleep before you come, bring your appetite and have fun!!
