A parent told University at Albany Hillel Executive Director and Campus Rabbi Nomi Manon, that her son, a transfer student, had not attended anything Jewish on campus until just before he was set to graduate last spring. When he called his mother after his first UAlbany Hillel Shabbat dinner, it was to say, "That was a huge mistake.” "What was?" she inquired. "I can't believe I never went to Hillel before now," he answered, "the people were so nice, the food was good and it was a great experience."
After that conversation, the student encouraged his brother, an incoming freshman, to get involved with Jewish life at UAlbany. His brother took that advice to heart and immediately signed up for Hillel and Judaic Studies’ Living Learning Community, the World of Jewish Life and Culture and participates actively in Hillel events.
