Pink Friday in Arizona

Hillel at Arizona State University celebrates Pink Friday for Breast Cancer Awareness

On October 26, the students at Hillel at Arizona State University celebrated Pink Friday, a day dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness. The Hillel women’s group Nashim kicked off the event with “Pink Prep” activities (Pink hair extensions, pedicures and more) for students, faculty and alumni. Nashim led Shabbat services for 40 students who gathered in their “pink best.” Hillel at ASU’s Rabbi Barton G. Lee and students shared poems, speeches and prayers on and about breast cancer during this special Shabbat service.

ASU Hillel Pink Friday.

During the service, Debra Kleinberg, Director of the Jewish Genetic Diseases Center (JGDC), shared the importance of Jewish genetic screenings and their impact on our community. When Kleinberg asked, “Who in here has known someone afflicted with breast cancer?” nearly every hand rose. It was an evening of connections, warmth, and most of all “pink.” Congratulations to Hillel at ASU for winning the Jewish Community Association of Greater Phoenix’s Belle Latchman Community Service Award.
