Reflections on my Taglit-Birthright Israel: HIllel Trip

Raleigh, North Carolina | 2013

"I wish I could thank every single person who helped get me to Israel with Hillel."

“I had planned to meet a few other Jewish students, see a few cool places and take Mt Herzl.pictures. Instead, this trip blew me away. Our soldiers each brought something different to our trip. For instance, at Mt. Herzl we stood at the grave of one of the soldier’s friends and felt a connection to something bigger. We felt a strong enough connection to fear for her and the rest of the soldiers in the Israel Defense Forces.

At Masada I expected to go to the top, see the sunrise and leave. Instead, our Jewish Agency Israel fellows surprised us with letters from our parents. Everyone broke off to read his or her letter. I finally understood why we were there and what it meant to be a Jewish student having the opportunity to be in such a holy place. I wish I could thank every single person who helped get me to Israel with Hillel.” - Rebecca, North Carolina State University
