American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, Inc. Jewish Service Corps

Mission Statement:
For 90 years the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) has served as the overseas arm of the American Jewish community. JDC's mission has always been to reach out to Jews in need of urgent help, to provide rescue, relief and reconstruction. Whenever possible, the JDC focuses on ensuring the local community's ability to become self-sufficient, to develop its own skills and resources, to meet its own needs and chart its own Jewish future. The JDC Jewish Service Corps is a one-year volunteer opportunity for self-starting, creative, college graduates to work and live in international Jewish communities. Volunteers work on a vareity of programs, including Jewish education, community outreach, and often welfare/relief projects. The JDC provides housing, a monthly stipend, health insurance, and covers all work-related expenses. This opportunity offers an amazing cross-cultural experience and also a chance to enhance professional and life skills, JSC volunteers have served in countries such as Romania, Turkey, India, Poland, Vienna (Austria) and Ethiopia. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis; most placements begin in the late summer/early fall. Please see our website for further details and email us for full job descriptions of current opportunities. The Ralph I. Goldman Fellowship in International Jewish Communal Service is awarded annually to one person with a Master's degree or equivalent experience, and allows for one year of work-study in overseas locations
