Mission Statement:
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. The very foundation of the American Red Cross is its volunteer work force. Today, over 1.3 milion people volunteer with the Red Cross nationwide, and the ratio of Red Cross volunteers to paid staff is 41 to 1. One in every two hundred Americans is a Red Cross volunteer. Youth and young adults up to age 24 are the fatest growing segments of the Red Cross volunteer staff and comprise 35% of all Red Cross volunteers. The American Red Cross provides a variety of services including Armed Forces Emergency Services, Biomedical Services, Community Services, Disaster Services, Health and Safety Services, International Services, Youth Services and Organizational Support.
