AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps |
Mission Statement:
The Jewish Service Corps is a year-long program combining work for justice, Jewish learning and community building in Chicago, New Orleans, New York, and Washington, DC. Participants work full-time on issues they care about: immigration, hunger, literacy, public health, domestic violence, and more. Corps members learn from veteran organizers, activists, and educators about how to make change in the world and about Jewish connections to social justice. They live with other young people ages 21-26 from a variety of backgrounds and build a community committed to integrating social change and Jewish values. All participants receive a modest living allowance plus health insurance and are eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award of $5,350 for repayment of student loans or future education.
