Beit Midrash/A Liberal Yeshivah |
Mission Statement:
Biet Midrash/A Liberal Yeshiva in Jerusalem is dedicated to the pluralistic and egalitarian study of Jewish text and tradition. The Yeshivah is open to English speakers who are college graduates or college seniors who have finished their coursework and are interested in learning more about their Judaism. Students choose between a full year of study or a single semester. Part time and full time options are available as well as short-term programs. Beit Midrash/A Liberal Yeshivah is different from other yeshivot in that we offer the opportunity to meet and study with Israeli students participating in our Beit Midrash for Israelis. In addition, we utilize both chevrutah and seminar methods of learning while emphasizing spirituality and community building. The faculty include rabbis, professors, and educators representing the various expressions of Judaism including Reform, Reconstructionist, Conservative, Modern Orthodox, and Secular. The number of men and women on the faculty is equal and all are dedicated to the development of the Jewish journeys of our students and the growth of our community. Beit Midrash/A Liberal Yeshivah is a joint project of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and theWorld Union for Progressive Judaism, in cooperation with the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College and The Leo Baeck College.
