Mission Statement:
Founded in 1875, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion is the nation’s oldest institution of higher Jewish education and is the academic and professional leadership development center of Reform Judaism. HUC-JIR educates men and women for service to American and world Jewry as rabbis, cantors, educators, and communal workers, and offers graduate and post-graduate degree programs to scholars of all faiths. With campuses in New York, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, and Jerusalem, HUC-JIR’s Skirball Cultural Center and Museums, Klau and Abramov Libraries, American Jewish Archives (10 million documents on Western Hemisphere Jewry and the Holocaust), and archaeological excavations in Israel provide extensive research opportunities for students in all programs and represent major centers of study, research, and publication.
