Jewish Labor Committee |
Mission Statement:
The Jewish Labor Committee is the Jewish voice in the labor movement, and the voice of the labor movement in the Jewish community. The JLC, founded in 1934 in New York to oppose the rise of Nazism in Germany, is an independent secular organization that helps the Jewish community and the trade union movement work together on important issues of shared interest and concern. Our national headquarters are in New York City; we have staffed local/regional offices in Boston, MA; New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI; Los Angeles -- and volunteer-led JLC or JLC-affiliated groups in such places as Washington, DC; Cleveland, OH; Miami, FL; Phoenix, AZ; Las Vegas, NV, San Francisco, CA; and Seattle, WA. A rather useful set of readings can be found on our website; one deals with the American Jewish labor movement; the other deals with traditional Jewish texts on workers rights.
