Mission Statement:
The mission of JOFA is to expand the spiritual, ritual, intellectual and political opportunities for women within the framework of halakha. We advocate meaningful participation and equality for women in family life, synagogues, houses of learning and Jewish communal organizations to the full extent possible within halakha. Our commitment is rooted in the belief that fulfilling this mission will enrich and uplift individual and communal life for all Jews. Of the projects JOFA is involved in two may be of particular interest to college students. Shabbat T'lamdeini which recognizes and celebrates the contributions women make through Torah learning and leadership by having Hillels invite female scholars to speak on their campuses. JOFA supplies guidance on designing the program, speakers and stipends. JOFA also offers a discussion forum for students called "On Campus." It is a virtual community where students can discuss, question and brainstorm about matters relevant to their lives.
