Mission Statement:

Founded in Canada in 1978, Nephesh Theatre opened as the only professional Jewish theater operating in Canada.  In 1983, founder and director, Howard Rypp, moved Nephesh to Tel Aviv, Israel.  Nephesh Theatre’s mission is, “To bridge the existing gaps between various religious, ethnic and cultural groups through the creation and production of plays, which simultaneously educate and entertain.”  With such a strong desire to connect cultures, Nephesh Theatre’s work has been performed throughout Israel and abroad.  Its play “It Sounds Better in Amharic”, which has played to Hillels throughout the United States exemplifies this mission.  Today, Nephesh performs its repertoire of shows both written in Hebrew and English, with over 400 presentations annually.
