This program included an incredible exhibit of the pictures of the journey from Ethiopia to Israel of the Israel Fellow at UC Santa Cruz, Maritu Kabada, who emigrated from Ethiopia to Israel as a child. Hela Lahar brought the famous Arab-American writer and speaker, Nonie Darwish, to several of the Philadelphia campuses. The talk was entitled "Why I Renounced Jihad for America, Israel and the War on Terror,” and drew a large crowd at the University of Pennsylvania, Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore Colleges. Diti Kikayun at Queens College Hillel recruited 60 students to create a mural for the Hillel’s lounge walls to celebrate Israel’s 60 years of independence, with the help of a professional artist. During the process, the students learned about the important sites of Israel, from the Dead Sea, to the Galilee, and the Western Wall in Jerusalem.

Yonatan Barkan, Hillel at Davis and Sacramento

Yonatan Barkan is returning for a third year to the Hillel at Davis and Sacramento. Among his many accomplishments include working closely with a state senator’s office to reinstate the study abroad program in Israel for all 10 University of California campuses, calling upon the Regents of California.
