Hillel and Taglit-Birthright Israel transform the Jewish community.
Hillel knows that for many students, their Jewish journey begins in Israel. That’s why we create Taglit-Birthright Israel experiences that last far longer than the 10 days students spend in Israel. We are unique in requiring advanced staff training and thorough follow-through with students upon their return, to continue fostering engagement with Israel and Jewish life.
Taglit-Birthright Israel provides a revolutionary opportunity to reshape the narrative of today’s Jewish students. The experience may be the single most transformative initiative offered by Hillel and the organized Jewish community.
The educational framework of a Taglit-Birthright Israel: Hillel trip enables students to interpret their experiences by participating in conversations that explore four themes:
- Importance of Jewish memory
- Personal relationship with Israel
- Connection to spirituality
- Exploration of what being Jewish means to them
Empowered by our professionals, participants pause, reflect, and apply their newfound knowledge to their “real lives.” Students often reflect that these conversations were among the most meaningful parts of their trip, helping them to synthesize what they have experienced into their thinking and life beyond the 10 days spent in Israel.
Our professionals apply their dedication, knowledge, skills, passion and hard work for months leading up to Taglit-Birthright Israel trips. After staffing the trip, they meet individually with each participant to discuss the experience, and engage in ongoing communications which reinvigorate the initial excitement of trip participants to keep them involved on campus.
When students return to campus and their communities, they are energized about Israel and eager to learn more about their relationship to Jewish life.
This trip is a gift from Taglit-Birthright Israel
