Spending the semester or year in Israel? Interested in exploring Israeli society and interacting with complex communities?
Service: Meaningful direct service that addresses unmet social needs in Israel; enables community interaction; and motivates participants to become active citizens.
Learning: Unpeeling the layers of Israeli society, its challenges and celebrations in social justice.
Connection: Inspiring stronger connections between people, societies, social justice, Judaism and Israel.
This year, 50 students studying in Israel for the year/semester will have the opportunity to participate in Hillel's Social Justice Tiyul in Israel. Students must be prepared to fully participate in intense days of hands-on service, be open to experiential learning as a means to increase knowledge about socio-economic and social justice issues in Israel, be receptive to returning to campus as active citizens, engaging in the local Jewish and non-Jewish communities, and exploring social justice as a Jewish value. Social Justice Tiyul in Israel 2010 is generously funded by Repair the World.
Students will have the opportunity to work and interact with communities they may not otherwise get to know during their semester. Projects include working with Negev communities, children, and farming/agriculture.
