Schedule of an typical day on Hillel’s New Orleans Alternative Break
7:00 am Rise and shine
7:30 am One campus begins preparing breakfast. A second
campus lays out food for lunch—to be made and
taken to worksite
8:00 am One campus stays back to clean—bathrooms,
showers, dining area (this group will be transported
to worksite late morning)
8:15 am Load buses to work site
9:00 am Arrive at work site—meet with worksite
supervisor, organize tools, etc.
9:15 am Begin work
12:00 pm Eat lunch—lunch can be decided on site as to when
you want to break; you can break in shifts.
3:30 pm Stop work—clean up, put tools back, gather up
belongings.
4:00 pm Load buses for post-work program
5:00 pm Program and/or campus time
7:00 pm Dinner (at our accommodations or an alternate
location)
8:00 pm Program—roughly 2 hours, depending on the night,
ex: speaker, tour, or campus meeting or reflection.
10:00 pm End of formal programming, time to relax.
