Hands On Alternative Break in Rio is an opportunity to explore global Jewish peoplehood while participating in Hillel Rio’s Tzedek projects that help fulfill needs in communities in Rio de Janeiro. Past participants have volunteered in one of Rio’s favelas (shanty town). Students also interact with the local community and connect with young members from Hillel Rio de Janeiro through cultural and leisure activities. This is a unique opportunity to see a beautiful city through the eyes of your Hillel family host, Hillel Rio.

Participating Hillels are expected to send one to two Hillel professionals, depending on the size of the group. These Hillel professionals are also responsable for leading discussions and reflection (curriculum provided by SIC).

Program Dates: Defined by visiting group, minimum 7 days.

Cost: $1,200 per person (students and staff). Fees subject to change due to fluctuation in value of dollar.  Campuses will be notified October 2011 of any change in fees.  Airfare is not included in the fee. Every American citizen must pay for a visa to travel to Brazil, please check the government website for details.

Transportation: Campus is responsible for all U.S. ground transportation and all air travel.
