ICHEIC - New York
This page is for a program that is no longer active. This page is not being updated.

Brighten the life of a Holocaust survivor/Nazi Victim by spending an hour a week sharing stories and laughter. Connect with other students. Join the ICHEIC Service Corps Fellowship. Take advantage of a unique Service-Learning opportunity and participate in reflection sessions with your peers.

What is required of me?

You will be expected to be a regular friendly visitor to an elderly Holocaust survivor/Nazi victim with whom you will be matched up, and participate in monthly peer-to-peer sessions in order to process, share stories, and problem solve. These sessions will also include guest speakers on topics related to the Holocaust. Regular attendance is expected. The group will have opportunities to participate in intergenerational luncheons, a visit to the Museum of Jewish Heritage and other programs. Students are asked to keep an online journal of their experiences. A small stipend to cover expenses associated with the visits will be provided.

Course Credit for participation is available at Hunter College and some other CUNY schools. The program is open to all college and graduate students in the New York area. Visits to Nazi victims are set according to student's individual schedules.

Beginning this program is beginning a relationship with a Holocaust survivor. One where he/she will share stories from the past, questions for the future, and where you'll share your laughter and thoughts.
