It is with much pride for our student leaders and staff I wanted to share with you this update on all the great activities Hillel Russia organized across the country last Sunday in honor of Day of Good Deeds with support from our friends at the Joint Distribution Committee (JDC). We had more than 400 volunteers in 6 cities participate in a dozen of different activities ranging from park clean ups to making Challah for homeless people to dog shelter visits. In Moscow we even had several Hillel’s “Good Buses” move volunteers from one Tzedek activity to the next.
While we do community service activities throughout the year this was a good opportunity to highlight our Tikkun Olam work and we are happy to report that this year the media took notice.
What is truly special about it - is that for the first time in Hillel Russia’s history our programs were shown on Russia and Channel1, the two largest national (!) TV channels. Another story was aired by TVRain, the only truly government independent channel, which has smaller but extremely sophisticated audience. All these stories combined gave us a huge exposure and we are planning to continue building better media outreach to help more Jewish students learn about us and get involved.
Wishing you all much good this week and always.
Sasha Shlimak and the Hillel Russia team
