Jewish Life at Queens University
Queens is proud to foster Jewish Life on campus with a pluralistic environment that welcomes students from all backgrounds and affiliations. Whether you're looking for a Hillel leadership opportunity or just want to take advantage of a warm Jewish community, this is the place for you!
Our Hillel enjoys the support of the entire university as well as Charlotte's vibrant Jewish community. Led by our Coordinator of Jewish Life and Campus Rabbi, Queens Hillel serves the social, cultural and religious needs of Jewish students on campus.
In the coming year we'll celebrate the holidays (High Holidays to Shabbat and everything in between) and explore Jewish culture and identity through special events, movies, cooking and Tikkun Olam. We'll also work closely with the University Chaplain to support multi-faith programs that foster ongoing dialogue among people of all faith traditions.
Speaking of faith, our strong partnership with Shalom Park gives students yet another avenue for Jewish observance. This 55-acre complex, practically in our back yard, is the heart of Jewish Charlotte. It houses both Reform and Conservative synagogues, the Levine Jewish Community Center, and many other Jewish agencies. In addition to worship at Shalom Park, our students can find part time work, summer internships and more.
Our Gossett Jewish Leadership Scholarship and our Donald H. and Barbara K. Bernstein Scholarship for Jewish Leadership offer a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to flex their Jewish leadership muscles in support of the growth of our Jewish community here at Queens.
Our Jewish Studies minor examines Jewish identity, culture, and belief through a broad range of courses covering history, religion and theology, ethics, philosophy, literature and more. Our Sklut Professor of Jewish Studies offers courses on Diversity and Identity in the Hebrew Bible, Holocaust in Film and Literature: Human Rights and Social Responsibility, and more.

Our dynamic Hillel group is active and gaining momentum! During this academic year we celebrated the High Holy Days, Hanukah and Passover. We enjoyed events to usher in the Shabbat and explore Jewish culture through student life programs, Soul Food Shabbat, Cinco de Mayo Shabbat, movies and more. Further, Hillel and its advisor work closely with the university Chaplain to sponsor multi-faith activities and speakers that foster an ongoing dialog among people of all faith traditions at Queens.
