Northeastern University Hillel Hosts a Community B’nai Mitzvah Celebration to Remember
This past weekend, at Northeastern University Hillel, nine students were called to the Torah for a special, community-wide Hillel b’nai mitzvah ceremony.
We provide a welcoming Jewish community on campus for students from all Jewish backgrounds and cultures. Offering an early move-in orientation program for new students that includes an immersive retreat and many social opportunities to make friends and network, we are a Jewish home on campus for students in their transition to, and throughout, their university experience. Interested in Jewish learning? Each semester there are Jewish Learning Fellowships for small group learning, and opportunities to study with our Hillel rabbi. Interested in social justice? Students bake Challah weekly for Challah for hunger, and also cook for local hunger organizations, along with other volunteering opportunities guided by students’ interests. Wellness? Join a meditation group, or a Shabbat afternoon reflective hike. Passionate about Israel? Take a class on Israel through Hillel, attend programs and cultural events, join Huskies for Israel that meets at the Hillel House for further activism, and consider applying for an internship through Hillel with a national Zionist Jewish organization or attending regional and national Israel focused conferences. Join a Birthright trip during winter break or in May, consider also a Perspectives trip as an upper class student, or Onward Israel, or talk with and get support from our IACT Fellow on the next great opportunity for you. We focus on building interfaith ties between student groups as well as antisemitism education. Consider attending an interfaith event, conference, or retreat with other Hillel friends or becoming a Hillel Campus Antisemitism Peer Educator and joining a talented group of students who do workshops and hold conversations across campus. Are you an NU student based in London, Oakland or NYC? We have active student boards on all three campuses creating cultural, social, Shabbat and holiday events. Our team cultivates and empowers student leaders to create programs and initiatives both on and off-campus. Join us for a Hamantaschen bake and Purim Spiel on Purim or our quarterly networking events with Career Up Now! Did you miss having a bar or bat mitzvah? Consider celebrating with your Hillel community! Every other year we have a group experience for learning and celebration. These are just a few examples of the many types of Jewish opportunities at Hillel - social, cultural, volunteering, religious, there are things happening every day at the Hillel House, or just come by to hangout with friends.

NU Hillel is deeply committed to student wellness, offering regular opportunities to relax, reflect, and connect in a supportive, welcoming environment. Whether it's through study breaks, de-stress events, or wellness-focused classes, we prioritize your wellbeing as a core part of our mission. We celebrate and embrace the rich diversity of our students’ identities, weaving inclusivity into every aspect of our community. We host and collaborate on a wide range of programs that reflect this commitment—you can join our Spanish speakers group, attend the SAMI Conference and help plan Sephardic and Mizrahi events on campus, connect with other students from interfaith and multicultural Jewish homes, or simply relax and unwind with our Keshet LGBTQ+ community.
