Explore Hillel at York College

YCP Hillel is a strong, student-centered Hillel. Housed in the Gordon Center for Jewish Student Life, we are known on campus for our Shabbat and holiday celebrations. Students involved in Hillel develop close friendships and have the opportunity to take on leadership roles through our Hillel Executive Board or our Gordon Leadership Scholarship. Students are able to develop a close 1:1 relationship with the Hillel advisor. Each year, we award the Gordon Leadership Scholarship to incoming freshmen who will be part of building Jewish life at York College. This program gives students an opportunity to learn about Zionism and ways of combatting antisemitism and anti-Israel bias in school and work environments, utilizing curriculums from Hillel International and advisor created material.

Jewish Experience Through Hillel

Aside from our Friday activities, we have events during the week that allow students to meet one another. Popular student favorite events have been goat yoga, which we hold annually during the Fall semester, and a study break at the local bookstore near campus, where students can purchase a book and a drink on us. Regardless of the activity, the atmosphere is welcoming, relaxing, and fun!

Wellness, Inclusion, and Activism

The first 2 floors of our building are ADA compliant. We also are mindful of our environmental impact, and aim to use mostly compostable or reusable dishes and silverware for meals. Additionally, we have received a grant for MitzVote during both the 2020 and 2024 election cycles, which helps students become prepared to vote in major elections. This program allows students to make a plan to vote and request their absentee ballot online to be mailed to their dorm.
