Hillel International Responds to Calls for Universities to Cut Ties with Hillel
The calls to remove Hillel, the world’s largest Jewish student organization and a cornerstone of Jewish college life for more than a century, equates to a campaign to erase a significant portion of Jewish life and identity on campus. It is deeply hurtful that some Jews are being labeled as “good” and others as “bad” simply because of the way they express their Jewish identities – an inherently antisemitic exercise.
Every person, organization, and institution has an obligation to stand against antisemitic exclusion, and to ensure that the Jewish students that Hillel serves at more than 850 colleges and universities around the world have a safe and welcoming campus community that they can call home.
Over the past school year, a record-breaking 180,000 students participated in Jewish life, learning, holidays, community service, and activities with Hillel – deepening their connection to their Jewish identity through our programming. Especially at challenging moments throughout the school year, the sense of safety, community, and belonging that Hillel and our 1,200 campus professional staff members provided is unmatched.
We are incredibly proud of the courage and resilience that Jewish students displayed throughout the year, and we will never stop working to create a campus climate free from hate and discrimination directed at Jewish students, and all students.
