Welcoming the Hillel International Summer 2021 Interns

Hillel International is so excited to welcome our Summer 2021 interns! While these students cannot physically be at Hillel International’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., this talented and diverse group of interns is rolling up their sleeves and working virtually with Hillel’s Communications, Development, Engagement, Human Resources, Israel Education, and Marketing teams. These interns come from diverse Jewish backgrounds and are active in their local Hillels, where they have developed their passion for the Jewish community, Tikkun Olam, and the Hillel movement.

Hailey Behrman (she/her/hers), George Mason University ‘22
Marketing Strategy
Hailey grew up in Cape Charles, V.A. and Charlottesville, V.A. She is currently a senior at George Mason University, studying marketing with a minor in history. Some of Hailey’s favorite things are photography, talking about all things history, and traveling! “It’s hard for me to think of a way that Hillel hasn’t impacted my life,” Hailey says.

Jared Gans (he/him/his), George Washington University ‘22
Communications
Jared is from Voorhees, N.J., and attends George Washington University. Jared is studying journalism & mass communications with a minor in political science. Since freshman year, Jared has been involved with GW’s student-run newspaper, the Hatchet, and currently serves as the managing editor. Jared is excited to work with Hillel this summer because it allows him to bring together two of his passions: Jewish life and Journalism/Communications. Throughout much of college, Jared has felt these two spheres have been competing for his time, but this internship provides a chance to develop in both areas. Jared looks forward to this opportunity to round out his skills as a Jewish professional and in journalism and communications. 

Mia Levine (she/her/hers), Clark University ‘23
Israel Education
Mia is in her second year at Clark University, where she is double majoring in political science and sociology. Besides splitting her time between class and writing, Mia is the co-editor in chief of The Scarlet (Clark’s student newspaper), the treasurer for Clark University Film Screening Society, and a member of Model United Nations. Outside of school, she loves talking about New York City (even though she is from Long Island) and about her poodle, Briscoe. 

Sydney Marantz (she/her/hers), Towson University ‘21
Development
Sydney recently graduated from Towson University with a B.S in family studies. She is currently participating in an accelerated program at The Baltimore Hebrew Institute to obtain her Master’s degree in leadership in Jewish education and communal services. Sydney also works as the Head Hebrew Instructor within the Religious School at Beth El Congregation in Baltimore, where she was recently awarded the Joan and Morton Baylin Award for Excellence in Teaching. At Towson University Hillel, Sydney served as the Secretary of the Student Executive Board, the Student Representative of the Governing Board, Vice President of Challah for Hunger, and the Student Administrative Assistant. 

Rebecca Mosk (she/her/hers), The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign ‘20
Strategic HR and Talent Acquisition
Becca Mosk is a recent graduate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In her undergraduate years, she studied communication with minors in Spanish as well as leadership studies. This fall, she plans to return to UIUC to receive her master’s from the School of Labor and Employment Relations. At school, she was very involved with her sorority, Sigma Delta Tau, and even served as president for her chapter. Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, she attended Hebrew School and Hebrew High School and spent her summers at JCC Camp Chi. As the Strategic HR and Talent Acquisition intern this summer, she is excited to learn more about the HR field while working alongside inspiring Jewish leaders.

Nicole Nashen (she/her/hers), Concordia University ‘22
Inclusion, Engagement and Wellness
Nicole is going into her last year at Concordia University, pursuing a major in community, public affairs and policy studies with a minor in human rights. She is the president of Hillel Concordia, and is a counselor on the Concordia Student Union (CSU). Nicole has worked hard to help educate CSU counselors and executives about antisemitism, giving way to  CSU’s groundbreaking apology letter to the Jewish community. Nicole is looking forward to being part of Hillel Montreal’s Leadership Council, where she will be chairing the Inclusion Committee in the upcoming year.

Talia Scharf (she/her/hers), American University ‘22
Communications
Talia is from Richmond, V.A., and is a rising senior at American University. At AU she studies public relations & strategic communications with a minor in business. On campus, Talia enjoys attending Hillel events, working with the School of Communications, and visiting coffee shop after coffee shop in D.C. Talia has always valued Jewish community through day school, sleepaway camp, youth group and now Hillel. In her free time, Talia enjoys hiking, watching sitcoms and exploring D.C.

Erica Weiss (she/her/hers), Bucknell University ‘23
Marketing and Design
Erica is from Northern Virginia and currently attends Bucknell University. She is majoring in markets, innovation, and design, while simultaneously pursuing a minor in Jewish studies. On campus, Erica is involved in the Delta Gamma Women’s Fraternity, as well as being the founder/leader of Bed and Breakfast, Bucknell’s cooking affinity house.  In her free time Erica enjoys boating, hiking, or playing with her cats. 

So there you have it: eight creative, involved, passionate interns for Summer 2021. We can’t wait to see how their journey continues!
