As it approaches its 100th year of serving Jewish students at more than 850 colleges and universities around the world, Hillel International announced that Shari Merrill will serve as its new chief operating officer, beginning later this summer. Merrill comes to Hillel from the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, where as chief impact officer.
Instead of celebrating it’s 25th anniversary this spring, the students and staff of Kharkiv Hillel are working tirelessly to repair their space that was heavily damaged by bombing during the war in Ukraine this spring. Volunteers are coming together to rebuild the Hillel building that previously housed 600 Jewish students and young professionals after it was reduced to rubble.
American Jewish Committee today honored students at Hillel chapters in the Ukraine city of Kharkiv, and Indiana University, where students marshaled an effort to create campus-wide solidarity in the face of rising acts of antisemitism. The Hillel chapters received the AJC Sharon Greene Award for Campus Advocacy, which recognizes college-based advocates who fight antisemitism and support Jewish life on campus.
A piece of Jewish history has been uprooted from Amsterdam and planted in Iowa City. One sapling grown from an old chestnut tree — which stood outside of the secret annex where Anne Frank wrote her famous diary — was planted at University of Iowa.

It only seems appropriate that in its third year, Hillel Global Giving Week 2022 raised an incredible three million-plus dollars to support Jewish life on campus. Hillel Global Giving Week (HGGW) was launched in May of 2020 to help campus Hillels raise critical funds at the outset the pandemic.
Hillel International, the largest and most inclusive Jewish campus organization in the world, announced today the 17 members of the 2022-2023 Hillel International Student Cabinet. The cabinet serves as a vehicle to connect the global Jewish student community, and also serves as an advisory council to Hillel International’s leadership in its efforts to engage Jewish college students worldwide.
As I’ve continued on my journey, I’ve discovered the importance of creating a space where students of all backgrounds and practices can be Jewish together. Judaism was made accessible to me throughout my first few semesters of college, allowing me to learn and grow Jewishly, and it has been such a rewarding experience to create a space for others to do the same.

A pop-up art exhibit at Brown/RISD Hillel fostered connectivity between Jewish art lovers, and inspired more students to envision their work on the gallery walls. Motivated by the success, the Hillel has since organized two other art exhibits featuring depictions of Jewish spiritual objects created by more than 30 students.
