The National Hillel Basketball Tournament (NHBT) kicked off its 13th year at the University of Maryland on Thursday, April 3. Over 50 teams from 32 universities across North America gathered at the University of Maryland’s state-of-the-art facilities for the weekend-long tournament.
Every year, Hillel organizes dozens of campus-specific, and national trips, connecting Jewish students and young professionals to their Jewish roots, to Israel as the homeland of the Jewish people, and, upon return, helps them forge new ties to their Jewish communities.

On Thursday, March 13, as students around the United States prepared to celebrate Purim with their campus Hillels, Jewish students and alumni across the pond were getting ready for Hillel International’s first-ever Hillel International Global Social event
One of the most joyous holidays on the Jewish calendar, Purim is a time to celebrate through traditions like dressing in costumes, reading the Megillah, eating and drinking tasty treats, and donating to charity.
This past weekend, at Northeastern University Hillel, nine students were called to the Torah for a special, community-wide Hillel b’nai mitzvah ceremony.
As the weather starts to turn toward spring here in Washington D.C, and we look ahead to the cherry blossoms beginning to bloom, a host of meaningful Hillel activities are blooming across our movement. Some of that activity remains dedicated to addressing ongoing antisemitism impacting Jewish college students, through initiatives including our Campus Antisemitism Legal Line (CALL), Campus Climate Initiative, and Campus for All student resource site. That said, since the topic of campus antisemitism is being covered so extensively in the news, I’m focusing this update on the many other aspects of our work that support, inspire, and empower the Jewish students we’re privileged to serve.
